Mount Tolmie is a simple and quick walk near my neighbourhood! I first Discovered it when I needed to take photos for a photography project in one of my classes first semester of last year. It is only 15 minutes away, with a nice incline to get your heart pumping! Unfortunately, I am currently on a little walking break, as I have injured my ankle, just for a little while, but luckily I had tracked one of my Mount Tolmie walks a couple of weeks ago!

Mount Tolmie, or Pkaals, as the Songhees people call this hill, is known for its panoramic views of Saanich and Victoria! You can see Mt. Douglas (PKOLS), Cadboro Bay, UVic, and even as far as downtown Victoria. My favourite view to look for when I’m at the top is the docked cruise ships near downtown Victoria. They are still very small, but very big compared to other buildings and views around it. I especially love it when they have the huge screen on the pool deck turned on, and you can watch the videos and pictures change.

Sometimes, if I want to go a different path, I go down a back walking path beside the Mount Tolmie water reservoir instead of retracing my steps there. The walking path comes out on the other side of the mountain, which is think is nice to see other views on my walk, rather than backtracking the way I came from! Another way to make this walk longer would be to go back down the other side north of the mountain. I’ve only done this once, since its closer to an hour-long walk, and I normally go on this walk when I want to get in a quicker walk!
