This week instead of taking you on a walk on mine I wanted to touch on the topic of a viral TikTok trend known as a “Hot Girl Walk”, especially after touching in class on the effects of “trends” towards a younger age demographic. In 2021, a new “trend” of walking a four-mile walk, while only thinking of three things: things you are grateful for, your goals and how you want to achieve them, and how hot you are! This trend was started and created by Mia Lind, who posted her first walking video back in late 2020.

The hashtag #hotgirlwalk has over 616 million views on TikTok. This trend has become as popular as both CNN and CBS News posting articles summarizing it.
The popular trend though, does not have to be followed the same way as Mia. Many people have tweaked their walks to fit their needs and desires of walking and enjoying it for themselves. Me particular, I just enjoy going on daily 30-minute walks to get out into the fresh air and enjoy the lovely environment around me, but especially just focus on my mental health, and giving myself that little break from everyday life.

Growing up my family and I were very big on weekend and holiday Heights. One year my dad came up with the “12 Hikes of Christmas”, which was basically just 12 different hikes over the Christmas break. We hiked so much, sometimes I felt it was more like a chore because we did it so often. This trend and concept had given me the urge in the last year to start walking again for me and enjoying my surroundings, my music, my thoughts and nothing else. I also feel that little boost of confidence singing along to a really good song, with my noise-cancelling headphones on, so I can’t hear what I actually sound like. I just pretend I’m just that good as a singer:)

I’ve posted both news articles below if you want to read more about the creation of the trend!
